For their special day, Puerto's drivers adorn their cabs with flowers,
ribbons and streamers. The festivities begin at 7 a.m. with a special
mass and the blessing of the cabs. Then the cabs begin a parade through
the streets of town, ending up at a social hall where the drivers will
feast on barbecue, raffle off prizes donated by local merchants, drink
beer and dance.
You might have a difficulty finding a taxi today, but when you do, wish the driver "Felicidades" and give him a tip.
Puerto's licensed taxis are cheap, clean and plentiful. Most of the drivers are honest, helpful and courteous. And they will charge you the official rates, as approved by the State Transit Police:
